NPR Technology

Two chefs get blasted in the face with a mystery entree on Dishmantled. Two chefs get blasted in the face with a mystery entree on Dishmantled. The streaming service Quibi -- short for "quick bites" -- calls itself "the first entertainment platform designed specifically for your phone." Perfect for the busy, distracted, on-the-go consumer! Too bad none of us are on-the-going anywhere, these days.

PlayStation 5: the 11 games we want to see in 2020 and beyond

The Guardian

Now that Sony has revealed the technical specifications of its forthcoming console, including its powerful AMD Ryzen processor, SSD storage system for fast loading, 3D sound and 8K support, what everyone wants to know is – what will we be playing on the machine when it launches next year? Here are the rumours and expectations, some more fanciful than others, but each one a distinct and enticing possibility. It's been almost three years since the acclaimed post-apocalyptic, open-world adventure arrived – and its accompanying DLC, The Frozen Wilds, showed there was plenty more to explore in this glorious, machine-filled dystopia. Developer Guerrilla Games has a history of supporting PlayStation launches (latterly with its Killzone titles), so a Horizon Zero Dawn follow-up seems extremely likely. Ever since Rocksteady wrapped up its Arkham franchise with Arkham Knight in 2015, there has been endless speculation over a new Batman title set in the Arkhamverse from WB Montréal, the studio behind the spin-off Arkham Origins.

Nintendo Switch review – revolutionary, at home and on the move

The Guardian

After the Wii U failed to ignite the imaginations of anyone but the most devout Nintendo loyalists, a lot rides on its successor. The Switch itself is the very tablet you hold, rather than a beast left tethered to your TV. It offers a pixel-dense 1280x720 screen with capacitive multi-touch features, but this is far from a Nintendo-branded iPad – slide it into its dock at home and it offers a 1080p output on the main screen. In either state, the real wonders are the two Joy-Con controllers, which are as revolutionary as the Wii Remote was a decade ago. When slid on to the side of the Switch (or the included grip frame), they deliver the easy familiarity and detailed input afforded by any traditional controller.

It's Impossible To Separate Out The Success Of The Nintendo Switch And 'Zelda' Right Now

Forbes - Tech

In case you hadn't heard the good news, the Nintendo Switch is selling well. In many regions, it's the fastest selling console since the Wii. In others, like the US, it's even outsold that. In some places, like Spain, the Switch's launch is even bigger than the PS4's. While I don't want to diminish the fact that Nintendo is having a successful initial launch period here, what I can't stop thinking about is the idea that the Switch's good fortune may be less driven by people wanting the actual console, but rather people wanting to play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild because the game is That.

The Switch is the fastest-selling console in Nintendo history

What's more, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was the best-selling launch title in company history, beating out Super Mario 64 for the cartridge-based Nintendo 64. It's far too early to tell how the Switch will do overall, or to compare it to Nintendo's last runaway success -- the Wii -- but, at this point, the future looks good for the portable home console. Especially when you consider that game consoles typically launch in November. It's just more proof that people will buy games and consoles whenever, so long as they're actually worth buying.

Review: The Switch Is the Nintendo System We've Been Waiting For

TIME - Tech

The most important thing to know about Nintendo Switch is, drum roll please, that there's surprisingly little to know at this point. It is on one level simply what it claims to be: a respectably powerful $299 TV games console you can buy on March 3 that also transforms into a handheld gaming powerhouse. There are no bending limbs or hidden robot heads lurking beneath its vivid capacitive multitouch 720p screen or beveled matte-finish plastic housing. You simply pull the rectangular slate--bookended by a pair of motion control sticks capable of advanced haptic feedback Nintendo calls Joy-Cons--from its U-shaped dock, and presto, it's a handheld. As a handheld, the Switch feels respectably rigid and durable, an unostentatious but beautiful carbon-black slate that's like a blue collar version of an Apple product.

Nintendo's new home-and-away console has been unveiled in Japan. While we haven't got to touch those unusual controllers just yet (that'll be later today), we've got prices, launch titles, and a bunch of features that sound like a Nintendo fan's wish list fulfilled. We also have HTC's newest phone, the possibility of smartphones with folding screens, and a digital camera that leaves photo curation to AI. When our supercut of the press launch weighs in at 12 minutes, you know Nintendo had a lot to tell us about its new console. We've already told you the price and the date, but how about no more region-locking (a Nintendo'tradition'), a proper touchscreen and more.
